Dove Pearl of Wisdom #1

Dove recently united two powerful forces: chocolate and unsolicited advice.  They began including little word pearls under its wrappers, so chocolate-lovers would receive a tasty treat, and also a light life suggestion.   Chocolate + gentle nudge in a slightly reckless direction = fun experiment.   And here are the results*-- it makes people eat bags of chocolate, collect the wrappers like pogs, and, upon finding no one to trade with, apply the wrapper wisdom to the creative life and write about it on their blogs.

Pearl #1:

This seems like a logical place to start. Has anyone ever had a brilliant idea and then decided not to use it because it was too good for whatever you were working on?  I have.  The idea was the fancy china that’s too nice for ordinary dinner.  So, like all rational beings, I put it on the highest shelf and saved it for when the Pope comes over.  But guess what, the Pope never comes over, and that idea is still zipped up, looking very dapper in its bubble wrap.  And nobody knows it but me.   This is a problem.  There isn’t an Idea Well that needs to be rationed before it dries up.  Don’t save the best idea for the best project.  Use the best idea and whatever you are working on will become the best project.  Ideas are a replenishable resource.  Use the best one, and it might lead you to an even better one. Or at the very least, it will allow an entirely new one grow into the empty space.   Don’t cheat your own projects of your best ideas.   Approach creativity (and life) from a place of abundance.  Trust that you will always have enough.   Save the best for first!

Dove Dove Dove,
Kat

*These results are based on a research pool of one.  I think they said not to do that in school, but I don’t really remember.  I didn’t pay much attention in science.  Or was it math...

PS I’ll be posting a Dove Pearl of Wisdom every day this week.  So grab a chocolate and see you tomorrow!
